Doubt
by LorienWillow
What if it's true?
"Come on, Teal'c, you don't really think that you're still First Prime of Apophis."
"I have never ceased to be in the service of my God."
Dear Lord, what if it's true?
How many times have we killed Apophis only to have him come back and make our lives hell again?
Escaping Apophis and his troups on Chulak in the first place should have been impossible. If it wasn't for Teal'c's betrayal (apparant betrayal?) of Apophis, we would have all been dead long ago. Was our escape planned? Was it too easy? Everything happened so fast at the time. One minute we were facing a firing squad, and the next minute the squad became the targets. All because a few words from Jack convinced the right hand of a 'god' to change his lifelong belief system. How unlikely is that?
"Are you trying to tell me you don't remember what's happened these past four years?"
Have the last four years just been one long setup?
"I remember everything. It makes me ill to think I was forced to pretend to be your friend. So many times I saved your life when I wished I could watch you die."
He has to be brainwashed. He has to be! There's no other explanation for this sudden devotion to the twisted snake that calls himself a deity. There's no way everything he did since we escaped Chulak was because it served that monster's purposes.
Is there?
No. No! Too much has happened! Too many times he's saved our lives, helped to save our world. Why would he do that, when we've caused his 'god' so much trouble? Why not just eliminate us? It couldn't have just been an act! Too many of Apophis's own troups have died by his hand. Hell, he even saved my life from Apophis's queen! He killed Ammonet!
He killed Shar'e.
He killed my wife.
Oh, God, could he have planned it?
Could he have murdered my love because, in some horribly warped way, her death served the purposes of Apophis? Was it all planned?
Did she know?
"You must forgive Teal'c."
Why? Why would she say that, if it was all a plan? She said I had to find the child. But when I did, it was obvious that he didn't need my protection.
"You must forgive Teal'c."
Was there another reason I needed to forgive him?
No, it can't be true. I've seen too much over these last four years to believe that Teal'c is anything but brainwashed. He's shown care and compassion too great to have been pretended. His strength of character is beyond reproach. There is no way on this planet or any other that he is still serving Apophis of his own free will. It's _not_ true!
And if it is?
"You must forgive Teal'c."
We'll see, my love. We'll see.

Author's Note: This is my first complete fic. It was inspired by a comment someone made on the SG1-H/C list and the muse demanded that it be written post haste. Very short and probably confusing if you haven't seen the episode. Feedback is very much welcome and appreciated. Just be gentle, ok?
Feedback welcome.
